This piece started as a vintage Van Gogh t-shirt that had faded over time. Instead of letting the print disappear, I brought it back to life with embroidery inspired by Van Gogh’s brushwork. He often layered greens, blues, and warm tones to create his “white” roses, so the stitching mimics that to rebuild the painting with thread. I appliquéd the panel onto this white denim jacket that reminded me of a painter’s drop cloth. As the jacket ages, the natural wear and distressing will become part of the story.
